That Time I Split My Pants

Well, it's finally happened.  The #gainz are officially too much!  Yesterday afternoon my jean actually ripped!  Luckily I had a pair of leggings to change into immediately, so it was fine.....but I think this is the wake up call I needed to start caring about what I out into my body.

I registered for My Fitness Pal and fooled around with the settings.  I changed that calorie goal to 1800, rather than the automatic 1200, and I messed with the macros a little bit.  My name on there is are_donuts_paleo and I'd love to be friends!

MIMM #1: 17.2 & Augustine Brunch Date

Happy Monday!  Linking up with Katie today to share some things from my weekend.

Doing 17.2.....and then re-doing 17.2!  I was happy with my score on the first attempt, but didn't think it was my best effort.  I decided to re-do it, telling myself it didn't matter because I already had a decent score, and did better!  Tore my hands to shreds but ended up with three more reps and a tie break time that was nearly a minute faster.  Worth it!

Having brunch and cocktails with my girlfriends! We went to Augustine, the new-ish Keith McNally restaurant downtown and it was great.  I had the ricotta pancakes with blueberry preserves, coffee and then some rose.  My friends split a whiskey burger(which was amazing, according to them) and the egg sandwich(which was too mushy).

After brunch we ended up sitting the lobby of the Beekman, which was beautiful.  Velour couches, bookcases and a beautiful glass ceiling.

Meeting my boyfriend's dad! He lives in FL but was here for work so we had a delicious dinner at Cappolas.  Happy I got a chance to meet him while he was in town.

Goals for the upcoming week:

1.  Fix my bloody hands before Saturday.

2.  Record everything I eat in MFP.

3.  Drink more water - at least 3L a day.

4.  8 hours sleep every night.

February Reading List

Here's what I've read this month!  I'm trying to read 52 books in 2017 and I'm well on my way.

The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis

I loved this book!  I'm a sucker for almost any historical fiction set in NYC.  This novel takes place in 1950's and 2016 simultaneosly and it's set in the Barbizon Hotel, which fascinates me.

Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

Another book I loved this month!  So engaging and uplifting, with a classic Picoult twist at the end.

Cut Me Loose: Sin and Salvation After My Ultra Orthodox Girlhood by Leah Vincent

This one I probably wouldn't recommend.  I usually love memoirs but I found Leah Vincent and her innocence(and stupidity at moments) to be SO frustrating and difficult to read.

How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell

I've been following Cat Marnell for years so I was excited to read this.  Definitely easy to read and entertaining.

Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley

All of the tears.  Loved it, but definitely save it for home, not your commute!

Book Count for 2017:  9

17.1 Recovery Tips (How to Fix Your Back After 17.1)

Ah, yes, the Monday after the first open workout.  Maybe you were smart and did it on Friday so now you feel fine....but I was not.  I've been suffering from a nasty case of bronchitis so I waited until Sunday afternoon to do 17.1, hoping some extra rest would help me breathe through workout.  Spoiler alert: it didn't.  But oh well.  Now it's Monday and my back feels like it's been run over by a truck....but here's what I'm doing to fix it.

Epsom Salt Bat

I just use whatever kind I can find at CVS or Duane Reade and make the water as hot as I can stand it.

Foam Roll & Rumble Roller

Torture devices but they really make you feel so much better.  Find a spot that hurts and stay there for 30 seconds or so.

Or Tiger Balm or IcyHot....I just happen to partial this one.

Easy Movement

Emphasis on EASY!  Walk for 30-60 minute, do some yoga or ROMWOD.  Don't go into the gym to lift heavy and metcon.  One day off will not kill you!

Good luck with your recovery and let me know if I missed anything!

The Crossfit Open is Here and I'm Excited!

This will be my third year doing the open and I'm psyched!  I had just started doing crossfit in 2015, so I did all the open workouts scaled and then last year I was able to do everything RX but it was HARD for me!  I've worked really hard in the gym the past year to get so much stronger so I'm excited to see how I do this year in the open.

Can't wait for the announcement tonight!
